The All Inclusive Workshop:
(One day with each Instructor)
  • Meredith Arnold -- Etched Metal and Polymer Beads Bracelet --
The creativity and ingenuity used to make these luscious beads will be yours to experiment with and take your work to new places. This class will open your eyes to the possibilities of moving into unique directions in bead making. This is an abbreviated introduction into etching base metals and combining that with polymer clay. This process includes the best techniques for metal etching, making metal and polymer domes, and finishing techniques for both materials to make the beads. With these skills, students can go on to creating their own patterned texture plates for polymer and metal clay work as well. This class is all about expanding originality and gaining new skills. Students will take home everything they need to be able to etch right away as well as the beads for the etched metal and polymer bracelet project, perhaps a finished bracelet, depending on how quickly they work. The class handout is the instructor’s comprehensive booklet on metal etching. Students should bring an apron or old shirt and latex type gloves (that allow dexterity—not dishwashing gloves).

  • Doreen Kassel -- Sculpting Holiday Beasts & Creatures-- This workshop will focus on creating fun, offbeat small sculpture with Holidays as the theme. Christmas, Halloween & Valentines Day can be great jumping off points for imaginations to run wild! My technique of working sculpturally with lots of texture, scoring & low relief achieves high & low recesses. An initial coat of dark brown oil paint collects in these recesses & when gently rubbed off, gives the piece a lovely vintage feel. Happy accidents occur with this technique, no great sculptural skill is necessary, just some patience : ). After the first coat of paint is rubbed off & the paint is collected in the nooks & hollows, different colors of oil paints are applied, using the same technique of painting & rubbing. When rubbed the colors reveal themselves to be subtle & beautiful. Every crack & fold adds to the charm of the piece. The result is a thrilling revelation & a beautiful vintage style piece!

  • Barbara McGuire -- Finding your Face -- Intrigued by Faces but don’t know what to do with them? Barbara McGuire will lead you threw a series of steps to find not only your face, but your focus concerning any desired theme. This full day class includes a presentation on how to find your true passions and narrow your design choices, as well as a ‘hands on’ project featuring a pre-made caned face. A critique presentation follows with tips and encouragement on how to improve your art and ‘see’ your work objectively
